Subject Overview

The Geography Department’s main aims are:

  1. To develop knowledge and understanding of:
    • The local area.
    • Other people and places.
    • Inter-relationships and interconnections between people and places.
    • The significance of location.
    • Human and physical environments.
    • People-environment relationships.
    • The causes and consequences of change.
  2. To develop skills in:
    • Geographical inquiry.
    • Map work.
    • Fieldwork.
    • Using I.C.T, spreadsheets, graphs, collaboration on Google Docs and Slides, Movie Maker, and internet research.
    • Using Numeracy.
    • Communicating effectively and confidently.
    • Working with others.
    • Managing Information.
  3. To stimulate interest in and appreciation of the world.
  4. To develop informed concern for the world and a willingness to take positive action locally and globally.

Pupil Encouragement

Pupils are strongly encouraged to be inquisitive about the world and its inhabitants, acquire knowledge and skills necessary for everyday life, and show good manners, sensitivity, compassion, tolerance, and empathy. Furthermore, they are encouraged to develop the ability to communicate effectively, develop individuality, with independence, self-confidence, and collegiality, Pupils develop a sense of responsibility to care for the world and others. Equal access to the Geography curriculum and the experience of success and enjoyment are also strongly encouraged, as well as fostering a can-do attitude towards learning.
