Subject Team
Mrs A Bryson (Head of Department)
Subject Overview
As a Department, we pride ourselves in inspiring pupils both inside and outside the classroom, on wall displays and along the Art Room corridor. Our Art Department slogan ‘Inspiration Is Everywhere’ is evident with the many visuals and creative outcomes on display which highlight the many mixed media skills and techniques on offer to all pupils. The Art Suite has lots of wall space to exhibit and showcase pupil work. The large glass display cabinets situated in the Art corridor showcase examples of our very creative and award winning learning outcomes in the form of 2D designs, 3D sculptures and ceramics created within the Art & Design Department.
What You Will Learn
Within the Art & Design Department our aim is to develop pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills in this subject and to develop their ability to be creative over the course of three years at our school. During these three years each pupil will:-
- Research, gather and interpret information from direct experiences, observations, memory, imagination and a range of traditional and digital sources.
- Develop an appreciation of the work of artists, designers and craft workers from their own and other cultures, past and present.
- Develop their creative thinking skills and produce personal creative learning outcomes through investigating, realising, designing and making via drawing and graphic media, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, 3 dimensional construction or prototyping, lens based and digital media.
- Use the visual elements with understanding when engaging in Art and Design and evaluate and appreciate their own work and that of others through valid discussion and reflection.
