About Our School

History

Tandragee is situated in Mid-Ulster near to the towns of Armagh, Portadown, Banbridge and Lurgan. The school, which lies in a picturesque setting on the outskirts of the town, was opened in 1963 and extended in 1976 to its present accommodation which is fully equipped and resourced to deal with all aspects of the Key Stage 3 Northern Ireland Curriculum.

New Science Laboratories, Technology Suite and refurbished Mathematic facilities were completed in 2004/05. A new state of the art Computer Suite and a modern Music Suite were added in 2006. There are 277 pupils in the school and class sizes are approximately 25 pupils. A Learning Support Centre provides for the education of Statemented pupils.

Craigavon Two-Tier system

Tandragee Junior High School forms part of the Craigavon Two-Tier system which over the years has well exceeded the Northern Ireland average in GCSE and ‘A’ Level Examinations. Within this system, Tandragee Junior High School caters for the full range of abilities at Key Stage 3, from high achievers to those pupils with specific learning difficulties.

The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities provided by a dedicated and hard-working staff and pupils are encouraged to participate fully because we feel it is integral to their overall development.

At 14+ pupils transfer to Portadown College or Craigavon Senior High School. Continuous assessment and the results of internal examinations are used to determine the Senior High School to be attended and the courses to be followed.
